John Acosta, is a first generation Mexican-American, born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is a dynamic & multifaceted filmmaker, organizer and Educator. Coming from brown communities we frequently must digest demeaning and sensationalist depictions of who whe are in the media, says John. That is why my work focuses on reclaiming brown narratives and take those stolen stories back. I feel it is my obligation as a filmmaker to cinematically represent my brown community in a way where our excellence is known, says John.
His films Duke City Diaries have surpassed 2 million views on Youtube. He was recently given A Creative Bravos Award, which is given to those who are making a significant impact on the lives of residents, neighborhoods, and/or communities.
